On the Move: Emily Dubin Gets Chronicle Design Fellowship

Emily Dubin (BFA 2010) was one of three recent design graduates across the country chosen for a Chronicle Books Design Fellowship. The fellowship is a six-month full-time paid position, allowing recent grads hands-on education working alongside seasoned designers as a part of Chronicle’s in-house design team.

Emily, who says she always gravitated toward typography classes and book design projects at the Academy of Art University, will spend the 6-month fellowship designing books for Chronicle’s adult publication groups, which include titles in art & design, food & drink, entertainment, lifestyle, and gift formats. ”I started at Chronicle two weeks ago and I’m loving it so far,” Emily says.” Great projects, very nice people, and a gorgeous office. I’m learning a lot about the book side of the publishing world and I’m so glad I’ll have these skills to complement what I learned while interning for Wired and Yoga Journal.”

Emily has long been inspired by Chronicle titles, including Griffin and Sabine. “I first became aware of Chronicle Books when I picked up Griffin and Sabine many years ago. Also, the Heath Ceramics book is gorgeous, and there is a new title coming out in the fall called The Exquisite Corpse, which features the work of many indie artists, and I can’t wait to have it.”

Past winners of the Chronicle Books Design Fellowship also include School of Graphic Design alums Supriya Kalidas (MFA 2008) and Geoff Wagner (BFA 2007), who is still designing for Chronicle today.
