The folks at Hatch Design have sent out egg-coloring kits to clients and friends for the past 3 years in celebration of Easter. Eszter Clark helped design last year’s “Amazing Technicolor Eggsplendificator,” which received Packaging Merit in HOW’s 2011 International Design Awards.

Elements of handmade were incorporated into this wine bottle packaging designed by Sara Golzari and exhibited in Communication Art’s first Typography Annual. The D was created using a Japanese brush in order to “capture the artisanal, yet bold personality of the brand.”

Sara Golzari’s brand identity and packaging for Crew Wine Company’s new California wine, Sawbuck, was showcased in Communication Art’s first Typography Annual. The design was inspired by the name itself, which is Civil War slang for a ten-dollar bill.

Antonio’s assignment was to redesign a bottom-shelf spirit, so he chose Old Grand-Dad Whiskey. Of the process, Antonio says, “My approach was to give the brand a distinguished and time-honored feeling.” This project was featured in the 45th issue of CMYK as a part of the New Creatives Showcase.

A joint thesis project by Ashley Ciecka and Mike Jeter, The SoftSpot informs graphic designers of their role in social change by strengthening collaborations between designers, the community, and their involvement with design for the greater good. It won an Ideas That Matter Grant from Sappi.

JungIn Lee (BFA 2008) » HOW Student Promotions, 2009

Ed, now at Hybrid Design, designed the eye-catching collateral for the Impact Teen Drivers campaign, which informs teens of the dangers of reckless and distracted driving. ITD won Best of Show overall as well as first place in the Health & Welfare of the AIGA cause/affect awards.

Shawn received two AIGA cause/affect awards for his thesis project, Rise of a New World, a comic book and website which details the impact of global warming in the year 2106. He was presented with a Judge’s Choice award and first place in the “Student” category.

Katy’s proposed eco-friendly clothing line, WHOLE, stresses the importance of reducing clothing’s toll on the environment by reusing and recycling t-shirts. WHOLE received a Judge’s Choice award in addition to placing second  in the “Student” category.

Carl, alongside alum and fellow I Shot Him partner Mike Jeter, designed QuakeQuizSF, an interactive website that aims to inform San Francisco residents about what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. QuakeQuiz placed 3rd in the cause/affect “Health & Welfare” category.

Mike, and fellow alum Carl Bender, worked with the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management to create QuakeQuizSF, a Flash-based website designed to test residents’ knowledge of earthquake preparedness. The site placed 3rd in the cause/affect “Health & Welfare” category.

Richard’s poster entitled “The End” is a part of Tom Sieu’s R3 initiative to promote sustainable design. “The End” asks consumers to think about where all of the things we throw away — televisions, sneakers, lamps, etc. — end up. The poster tied for 3rd in the “Student” category.

The “Lifecycle Book” was produced by R3, a group of School of Graphic Design students working to promote sustainable design spearheaded by instructor Tom Sieu. The book, which examines the lifecycles of products, tied for 3rd place in the “Student” category.

Anne Tsuei (BFA 2007) » Union Street Banner Competition, 2009
Facilitated by School of Graphic Design instructor Tom McNulty and funded by Wells Fargo, the mission of the Union Street banner competition was to re-design Union Street. Anne competed alongside two other BFA alums and was awarded $500 for her winning banner. Full story here.

Cody Dingle (BFA 2004) » HOW Poster Contest, 2009
Cody worked with fellow School of Graphic Design alum Michael Osborne on the launch and design of the paper grade Crane Lettra. This promotional poster, which was designed as part of the collateral, was named as a winner in HOW Magazine’s first annual Poster Contest. Read the full story here.

Tom Sieu (AAU Instructor & Students) » Earth Awards, 2009
A collection of student-designed books aiming to promote sustainability, R3: Products Reimagined was named a finalist in the 2009 Earth Awards. Tom Sieu, School of Graphic Design Instructor and Founder of R3, attended the ceremony and gave a speech on behalf of his students. Full story here.

Alex Cornell (MFA 2010) » STEP Design 100 Showcase, 2009
Pantone Palette Cleansers was in the 2009 STEP Design 100 Showcase. Of the project, Alex says, “This project imagines what would happen if color standardization became a thing of the past for Pantone and they decided to move into the far more lucrative world of oral hygiene.” Full story here.

Crystal Chou (MFA 2010) » IdN Top Talent to Watch, 2009
Crystal was profiled in IdN Magazine as a “Top Talent to Watch” for her impressive portfolio so far, which includes As Time Goes By, a fictitious World War II music collection with lyrics printed on letters and newspaper clippings, simulating a romance between a soldier and love at home. Augustus Ang (BFA 2007) » Best Beverage Packaging, 2008
Augustus, while working for McLean design, was lead designer during the design process of the packaging for Fentimans’ botanically brewed all natural sodas. The design team was awarded bronze in Beverage World magazine’s Best in Beverage Packaging 2008. Full story here.

Ed O’Brien (BFA 2003) » ADC Young Gun 6, 2008
Out of hundreds of entries from 46 countries, only 50 young professionals under the age of 30 were given the title of Young Gun 6 by the Art Director’s Club. Ed received this title for his work on the Nike Responsibility Report and Site, Super7: The Book, and the Impact Teen Drivers Campaign. Full story here.

QuakeQuizSF, an interactive website designed as a fun way to test San Franciscans on their earthquake preparedness was the Adobe Site of the Day on October 30, 2008. Carl and fellow School of Graphic Design alum Mike Jeter were instrumental in the site’s design. Full story here.

Yejin Chung (MFA 2007) » I.D. Student Design Review, 2008
Yejin’s MFA thesis project, Phonabet, a universal typeface and pronunciation system consisting of 39 characters, impressed the judges of the 6th annual I.D. Magazine Student Design Review, winning the School of Graphic Design alum the “Best of Category.” Full story here.

Vincent Lo (MFA 2007) » International Design Awards, 2008
Vincent received an International Design Award in the Graphics, Land Student category for his G1 Grand Prix (G1GP) project, a conceptual automobile race exclusively for environmentally friendly cars that produce low-to-zero harmful emissions and run on sustainable biofuels. Full story here.
